Role of Class Rank :
All the students must be having an idea about their current standing in the class.
For PSUs, Top 6-7 ranks in General Category , Top 1-2 ranks in SC,ST,OBC each are shortlisted directly for interviews. Kindly note that, only unplaced students are allowed for PSUs and any student who is not interested in sitting for the company, can ask the TPO coordinator to remove his name and the next eligible student will be shortlisted for the interview.
For students with relatively lower CPI around or below 7, can go for Software companies, as they have more scope in this area. But, if you think you are good at core knowledge, then you must go for the core sector. Generally for companies, CPI cutoff is 7.0 , and the companies with lower CPI cutoff are generally from IT sector (Software domain) . So, it is advised to prepare for software companies.
For students with higher CPI i.e. greater than 9 must take decision wisely whether to appear for any company or not. If selected then you will not be allowed for more companies even if the company you are placed in is of different domain ( you will be allowed in some companies if your package is less than or equal to 3.5LPA)
For students with CPI greater than 7.0 , will be shortlisted for most of the companies, can go for both the domains depending on their interest.
Students having problem in getting jobs in their required sector from oncampus opportunities must not forget about the offcampus. You can take up a backup job here at oncampus (of different domain) and prepare for offcampus. But you need DEDICATION for this. Its very hard to stick to this approach.
For instance, if your class rank is not good enough to get shortlisted for PSUs, then keep in mind the offcampus opportunities. Take up a job early in the year and give your 100% towards preparations for offcampus selections. But as said, you must be sincere towards your goal!
General Advice to the students : Do not sit for the company if you are not interested in getting selected, as your selection in written exam will take away a seat from the student who was genuinely interested in that company. Also, appearing for the written selection procedure and performing bad intentionally , can ruin the relationship between the company and our college. It has happened last year in case of mechanical engineering students.
